Talking Cocktails on KPCC Radio

Want to know more about how the classic cocktail scene gained so much steam here in L.A.? Or maybe you just want to know what types of drinks you need to be able to mix to wow the pants off a your date. No matter what your motives are, you’ll definitely enjoy my segment with John Rabe that aired today on KPCC’s Offramp .

I went on panel with a bunch of other cocktail experts like Javier Cabral (LA Times Food, KCET Food, Saveur, etc.); Daniel Djang, who founded the blog Thirsty in LA; and Naomi Schimek, beverage director at Spare Room Hollywood and VP of the LA chapter of the United States Bartenders’ Guild at the Virgil to talk all about the history of the classic cocktail renaissance, and where the scene is going from here.

You can check out a portion of the segment at KPCC here. Or just listen below.

Wish I could have these beautiful baguettes from @oddfellowscafe delivered down south. (Oh, and @mkretovics too.)
The cutest little lighthouse on Vashon Island.
Was bowled over once more by all the creative uses of PNW produce this weekend, namely the many iterations of rhubarb. Bread and butter pickled! Rose candied! Butter cream frosting! With vanilla as shrub! There wasn't a roasted cauliflower or brussels sprout in sight. If this is what cooks here can do in shoulder season, I can't WAIT to see what summer has in store. #pnwonderland
Was wowed by dinner here last week, and brunch today (including this lovely arrangement of pickles) was also BEYOND incredible. Had an amazing meal at the new Upper Bar Ferdinand this weekend, too. No joke Matt Dillon and his team are cooking some of the best, most thoughtful food I've had in the US not just this year, but period. End of story.
From the colorful Craftsmans and quaint growers market to the pint-sized lighthouse, everything about Vashon Island is almost too cute to handle. Such a wonderful bohemian island just a short ferry ride from the throws of Seattle. Def a PNW must-see! Check out my Snapchat story over @travelandleisure for more!
OK Seattle, I'm pickin up what you're throwin down. I could definitely get used to this. #pnwonderland #pnw #visitseattle
All of the lights, all of the lights.
There's a darling old school soda jerk inside the carousel at the Santa Monica Pier that serves phosphorous, banana splits, soda creams, and malted Fosselmans shakes like this one! I've had a blast partnering with @skyscanner @theexpate this week exploring Santa Monica and learning new bits about my city, and can't wait to do it again. #seesantamonica #letsgoeverywhere #basecretstreets #letmeeatcake
Wouldn't mind living here one bit, no siree. Have really been enjoying exploring Santa Monica this week with @skyscanner @theexpate and am so stoked for our live Periscope tomorrow am at 10. Be sure to tune in!
Time for one of my fave sweet treats in Santa Monica! Who's comin with me to @huckcafe? #seesantamonica
There's nothing more soothing than the sound of the sea and a gentle breeze blowing through the palm trees. @skyscanner @seesantamonica @british_airways @theexpate #seesantamonica
Being in Santa Monica always makes me feel like I'm a kid again! It's really a playground for adults too, and I'm so excited to share the sights and bites from the city with @skyscanner @british_airways @seesantamonica @theexpate this week. #seesantamonica #bacitysecrets #whponthego
